Located on Manor’s Hill, the museum brings the Battle of New Market into focus and gives visitors the context they need to explore the battlefield today.
The John Bracken Collection features artifacts from the French and Indian War through Vietnam, with an extensive focus on the Civil War. The Wellford Gallery presents original Confederate art, while the museum store offers books, relics, souvenirs, and visitor information for battlefields across the region.

River Road & Wharton’s Advance
Walk the ground where it happened.
The museum stands on Manor’s Hill, the scene of fighting before and during the Battle of New Market. Nearby Historic River Road marks where Union soldiers were positioned on the morning of May 15, 1864.
Follow the advance of the 51st Virginia Infantry and the 26th Virginia Battalion. Along the way, interpretive markers and the Virginia monument reveal how the Confederate line moved through the landscape.
