The New Market Civil War

Audio Tour and Mobile App

The New Market Civil War Audio Tour and Mobile App is our official mobile app for exploring the unique Civil War history and the battlefield of New Market, Virginia. New Market was a bustling little town at the time of the Civil War and vestiges of its history exist on nearly every corner. On May 15. 1864, the townspeople found themselves caught in the middle of a full-fledged battle when Confederates under Gen. John C. Breckinridge attacked and defeated a Union force under Gen. Franz Sigel. Famous today because of the participation of the Cadets from Virginia Military Institute, the compelling stories of soldiers and civilians alike are featured in the audio tour along with audio narration, maps, directions, and visitor information.
