American history comes to life! The Luray Valley Museum will be hosting a special Civil War Living History and Drill event on Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13. This interactive exhibit will include reenactments of the life of a Civil War soldier, from schooling to drill routines. Other activities include rations and food demonstrations, butter churning, arms inspections, medical care and military gear demos.  Sunday church services in Elk Run Meeting House.  Programs conducted by the 33rd Volunteer Virginia…

Car Caravan Tour: “Columns of Black Smoke: Page County on Fire, 1864”

Some of the most bitter and heartbreaking events of the Burning took place in the Page Valley, in the narrow corridor between Massanutten Mountain and the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Join author and historian Art Candenquist on this car caravan tour of Page County sites related to the Burning.  Free.  Participants will gather at the Luray Valley Museum for an introduction and then form carpools to travel to sites.  Sponsored by Luray Caverns.  For more information, call 540-740-4545.

A Civil War "mini-camp" for children ages 6-14 that’s perfect for veteran campers or for youngsters trying it for the first time. Campers will enlist in a unit alongside living historians and learn about camp life, soldiers’ drills, equipment, and life during the Civil War; witness a musket demonstration; and take part in a mock battle!
