Screening of “The Burning”

In early October 1864, a Confederate Soldier named Newton Burkholder observed that the “whole vale is red with fire mile on mile, and enveloped in smoke high overhead, twisting and writhing, dissolving.” In the Fall of 1864 General Philip Sheridan brought the concept of total war to the residents of the Shenandoah Valley. With the 155th anniversary of the event approaching, there will be a free screening of the movie “The Burning: The Little Known Story of the Destruction of the Shenandoah Valley, at the Shenandoah Valley Civil War Museum at 20 N. Loudon Street in Winchester at 7:00 PM. A discussion will follow.
