Civil War trails sign on the Confederate units that camped at this site following the retreat from Gettysburg.
Three weeks after the Battle of Gettysburg, and fighting near the town of Front Royal, Confederate troops withdrew into the Page Valley. Some the units camped and passed through the very spot where this marker stands. Following their days of rest and leaving the wounded from Gettysburg and other conflicts in different locations in the care of the citizens of the area, the Confederate units moved to recover their losses and recoup after a costly campaign.
