Civil War Trails sign on Stonewall Jackson’s November 1862 announcement that the Army of Valley had become the Second Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia and would soon be joining Robert E. Lee east of the Blue Ridge.
In November 1862, the Army of Valley and its Commander, General Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson repositioned his army to a position atop Massanutten Mountain. General Jackson informed his staff that their position was no longer to be the headquarters of the Army of the Valley, but rather that of the Second Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. Jackson would continue east to meet up with Robert E. Lee and soon would be at his right flank during the Battle of Fredericksburg.
