History and art galleries with rotating exhibits, history and genealogical research libraries, extensive archives, museum store, interactive Civil War kiosk, ongoing historical lecture series.

The Smith Center, a restored late 19th-century railroad hotel, includes one history gallery and two art galleries featuring rotating exhibits as well as a permanent Civil War orientation kiosk, lecture hall, classrooms, and the offices of the Augusta County Historical Society, Augusta County Genealogical Society, Historic Staunton Foundation, and the Staunton Augusta Art Center.  The Smith Center Museum store offers a wide selection of historical books as well as prints, photographs, quilts, and other art work and fine craft.  The historical society has an extensive archival collection and research library.  The genealogical society has extensive family history holdings.  The architectural holdings of renowned architect T.J. Collins are housed at the center.  Special events, exhibits, lectures, and classes are part of this premier history and art center.
