Free public lecture sponsored by Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute. Lecture will he held on the campus of Shenandoah University in Henkel Hall, Hester Auditorium and examine how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. leaned on President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and the ways in which emancipation's memory sparked fierce debate during the Civil War's centennial--the height of the Civil Rights' movement.

Shenandoah University's McCormick Civil War Institute annual spring conference--"Another Era in Our War Life": When the Home Front Became the Battle Front. Conference will examine the impact of various battles and campaigns upon civilians and communities. Registration fee of $50 ($20 for students with valid student ID) includes lunch. Presentations by nationally recognized Civil War era historians Eric Campbell, Allen Guelzo, Jonathan Noyalas, Frank O'Reilly, and Anne Sarah Rubin.
