To help you plan a visit to explore the Valley’s Civil War history, a printed guide to the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields National Historic District is available at visitor centers and historic sites throughout the Valley as well as the Virginia welcome centers along the major interstate entrances into the state.

The guide is divided into two main sections:

  • The Valley’s Civil War history – This section presents a very brief history of the military campaigns that took place in the region during the Civil War and the battles and stories associated with those campaigns, as well as a list of historic sites where those stories are told today.
  • Areas of the Valley – This section provides information about each area of the Valley, its unique story, and details about the historic sites in that area, including location, hours of operation, and contact information.

Please note that each of the downloadable files below is approximately 3mb. You will need the Adobe Reader to open and print them.
