Summers Koontz Commemoration

June 27, 2015 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Summers-Koontz-CeremonyTwo months after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox surrender, two former Confederate soldiers, Capt. George Summers and Sgt. Isaac Koontz, from Page County, Va., were executed without trial by Union troops on Rude’s Hill, north of New Market.  On the same date 150 years later, a ceremony commemorating the execution of Capt. Summers and Sgt. Koontz will be held on-site at the monument.  Program will include a color guard and a wreath-laying by the United Daughters of the Confederacy and descendants of Capt. Summers.  Presented by the Page County Sesquicentennial Committee and the Jack Adams Camp SCV, in association with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.  Free.  Signs will indicate parking.  Email Art Candeniquist at AC9725@cs.com for directions and information.
