Antiques Appraisal & Traditional Crafts Fair Featuring Quilts
November 7, 2015 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Belle Grove’s annual Antiques Appraisal and Traditional Crafts Fair is an opportunity for the public to bring their family treasures and heirlooms for verbal appraisals by expert appraisers that have experience with a wide range of items including textiles, furniture, documents, Shenandoah Valley and Civil War artifacts. Appraisals are $10 for one item and three for $25 and they will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.
A special focus for this year’s Traditional Crafts Fair will be Northern Shenandoah Valley Quilts. In honor of the Virginia Quilt Museum’s 20th anniversary, Belle Grove is collaborating with them on an exhibit. Belle Grove will show some of its quilts that are rarely displayed and the Virginia Quilt Museum will exhibit antique quilts of similar themes and made in styles unique to the Shenandoah Valley. When it was first in development, the Virginia Quilt Museum was based at Belle Grove and the historical connections between the two museums inspired this exhibit. One highlight will be the “Belle Grove Album Quilt” made in 1991 by Virginia quilters to benefit the Virginia Quilt Museum; it is in the Harrisonburg museum’s collection today. Among the appliqued flowers and fruits is a block that depicts the Belle Grove’s 1797 Manor House. The exhibit will be held in Belle Grove Manor House from Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is $12 adults, $11 seniors/military, $6 Virginia Quilt Museum and Belle Grove members and youth 6-16.
Saturday, November 7 and Sunday, November 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
