150 Years Ago…On This Day: The Summers Koontz Tragedy

Summers-Koontz-ProgramPart of a series of special “On This Day” tours commemorating the key Civil War events in the Valley on the exact date of their 150th Anniversary. This National Park Service Ranger-led, car caravan tour of key sites related to the tragic story of George Summers and Isaac Koontz and their June 27, 1865, execution will begin at the Summers-Koontz Monument (erected in 1893).  Tour will visit sites in both Shenandoah and Page Counties.  Presented by Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park and the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.  Free.  Signs will indicate parking.  For more information, call the SVBF at 540-740-4545.
