Rutherford's Farm (VA115)

Frederick County and City of Winchester
July 20, 1864

Description:

For most of the 150 years since the Civil War, much of this battlefield northeast of Winchester remained in agricultural use, with minor intrusions along US Route 11, which runs along the battlefield's spine.  In recent years, commercial and residential development along the Route 11 corridor has left much of the landscape altered and fragmented, although some essential features remain.  Rapid, large-scale development could overwhelm the remaining open land in the battlefield's core area before 2015.  However, the eastern side of the battlefield follows the historic Milburn Road corridor and may be available for protection.
