August 16, 1864
Description:
Much of the Guard Hill battlefield is now occupied by the Front Royal interchange on Interstate 81 and has been altered and fragmented. However, areas south of the interstate -- especially the high ground north of the confluence of the South and North Forks of the Shenandoah River for which the battlefield is named -- retain some historic integrity and could be protected and interpreted.
