The Lower Shenandoah Valley's Border Region during the Civil War - This seminar and tour will explore the interactions among soldiers and civilians in the lower Valley border region (Stephens City to south of Middletown) and examine how civilians of all allegiances dealt with the harsh realities of incessant conflict. The event will begin with a morning lecture ""The Final and Fatal Catastrophe: The Lower Shenandoah Valley on the Eve of the Civil War"" followed by an afternoon carpool/walking tour of sites that will bring to life the Herculean struggles of this region's inhabitants. This tour reminds us that war did not occur in the hinterlands and impacted more than the soldiers who sacrificed life and limb for the causes in which they believed.  Presented by the Center for Civil War History.  Instructor:  Jonathan A. Noyalas.  Cost: $20. Detailed driving directions will also be provided during check-in. You may register by contacting LFCC's Office of Workforce Solutions/Continuing Education at 540-868-7021 or you can register online at www.lfccworkforce.com.  For questions, contact Jonathan Noyalas at 540-868-7191 or jnoyalas@lfcc.edu.  Schedule: 10-10:30 a.m. Check in at LFCC, Middletown Campus 10:30-11:30 a.m. Welcome and lecture by Prof. Jonathan A.
