Stonewall Jackson Symposium Tour: Jackson's 1862 Valley Campaign

Pre-registration is REQUIRED for the Stonewall Jackson Symposium Tour! Participation is limited to the first 100 registrants. $175.00 per person. Registration fee includes Friday night lecture, reception, guided bus tour of the battlefields and lunch. Registrants also receive free admission to the VMI Museum and the Stonewall Jackson House as well as a 10% discount in both museum stores on March 22, 23, 24th , 2012. The 14th biennial Stonewall Jackson Symposium will be held March 23-24 following the VMI Sesquicentennial Signature event. This year’s program focuses on the 150th anniversary of Jackson’s celebrated 1862 Shenandoah Valley Campaign.
Join recognized Jackson scholars Robert K. Krick and Keith E. Gibson for an in-depth examination of Jackson’s twin battles of Cross Keys and Port Republic.
Friday, March 23, 7:00 p.m.
Lecture in Jackson Memorial Hall. Robert Krick will start off the event with a pre-tour lecture at 7:00pm in Jackson Memorial Hall on the VMI Post. His overview of the 1862 Valley Campaign and Stonewall Jackson’s meteoric rise from obscurity to international fame will prepare you for the following day’s battlefield tour. Krick has been involved in battlefield preservation for more than 30 years, and is a recognized authority on the Army of Northern Virginia.
Friday, March 23, 8:00 p.m. Reception for Tour Participants in the VMI Museum. Following the conclusion of the lecture enjoy an after-hours reception in the VMI Museum. There you will enjoy a special exhibit of Jackson artifacts, including the raincoat he was wearing when he was mortally wounded and Little Sorrel, Jackson’s war horse.
Saturday, March 24, 8:30 a.m. Battlefield Staff Ride. You will depart the Lexington Visitor Center via motor coach for a tour of the Upper Valley, including the battlefields of Cross Keys and Port Republic (where Jackson narrowly escapes capture!) Krick and Gibson will lead the tour, providing insight of Jackson’s strategic use of the Valley with which he was so familiar. Lunch will be provided.
You will arrive back in Lexington at 4:00 pm, in plenty of time to visit the Stonewall Jackson House and dine on your own at one of the many fine Lexington restaurants.
